Meet Dr. Derek Chenet

Dr. Chenet graduated from Duke University with a degree in Chemistry. He was fortunate enough to see the Blue Devils win a national championship while he was there. After college, Dr. Chenet attended Columbia University’s College of Dental Medicine and graduated with a Doctorate of Dental Surgery and a Masters in Dental Education. He went on to complete a 2 year general practice residency at the James J Peters VA in the Bronx. While a resident, he received advanced training in multiple specialties including endodontics, oral surgery, implants, and prosthodontics.

After residency, Dr. Chenet moved to Melbourne, FL to practice dentistry with his wife, Dr. Veronica Yu, and his father who is also a dentist. Dr. Chenet honed his clinical skills and took many continuing education courses to expand his knowledge on CEREC, digital dentistry, implant dentistry, 3D printing, and more. He was able to take over 500 hours of CE and passed the Fellowship examination for the Academy of General Dentistry, a distinction only 6% of dentists achieve. In 2023, Dr. Chenet and his wife elected to move back to Connecticut and call the shoreline home. Dr. Yu grew up in Madison and together, they knew this is where they wanted to settle down and raise a family.

Dr. Chenet wants his patients to feel comfortable at the dentist. His goal is to build an experience that is focused on comfort and quality without judgment. Dr. Chenet knows how important a patient’s oral health and smile can be, and wants them to feel like they have a voice in the room.

When not in the office, Dr. Chenet has many hobbies. He enjoys playing basketball and tennis as well as going on long walks and hikes. He loves to travel, both for the sights and for the food. He is an avid reader and enjoys mystery, science fiction, and comic books. He loves watching movies – so much so he actually worked as a projectionist at the on-campus theater while at Duke. But above all else, he loves to spend time with his daughter, Evelyn, and his wife, Veronica.
